How Computer Aid International Increased Online Visibility and Reached More Supporters

About

Computer Aid International had a clear mission: refurbishing and redistributing technology to reduce waste and improve access to digital resources. However, despite the impact of their work, they were not consistently reaching the people most likely to support or engage with the organisation.

The charity needed to improve its online visibility, make better use of its Google Ad Grant budget, and create a more structured approach to digital marketing across search, social media and content. We developed a strategy focused on reaching the right audiences at the right time – from businesses looking for IT disposal solutions to individuals looking to donate devices – resulting in a 334% increase in impressions and organic search sessions more than doubling within the year.

The challenge

Computer Aid had a clear mission and measurable impact, but its digital presence was not consistently reaching the audiences who needed to find it.

The website was not ranking strongly for the searches made by corporate IT disposal clients and individual donors, meaning potential supporters were often missing the charity at the point they were looking for solutions.

Social content existed, but without a structured strategy to build engagement or drive traffic towards key pages. Meanwhile, a Google Ad Grant budget worth tens of thousands in free advertising was largely unused.

Computer Aid needed a clearer marketing infrastructure to help its stories reach more of the right people.

Our approach

  • Rebuilt and scaled the Google Ad account. Improved targeting and directed qualified visitors towards key IT disposal and donation pages to maximise the value of the free advertising budget.
  • Developed a focused SEO strategy. Targeted the search terms actually used by Computer Aid’s core audiences to improve visibility for high-value searches.
  • Introduced a structured social content approach. Used impact stories, project updates and field content across LinkedIn, TikTok and other channels to increase engagement.
  • Aligned content with wider marketing goals. Brought blog content and newsletters in line with the overall strategy, helping turn awareness into meaningful action.

The results

Google Ad impressions increased by 334% year on year, while organic search sessions more than doubled. LinkedIn impressions grew by 103% and clicks increased by 539%.

Computer Aid is now reaching more people searching for laptop recycling and computer donation solutions, improving visibility among the audiences most important to its mission without increasing advertising spend.
